Designers often of see the staircase, the connection element between several architectural levels, as a necessary evil. Right from the beginning of its history, Fontanot has always seen the staircase as an ongoing challenge, a product to be discovered, well thought-out, designed and realised.

The biggest challenge we faced was to transform a typically artisanal product into an industrial project that would revolutionise living on a large scale, rationalise the industrial processes to fully express the potential of the product, and combine industrial perfection and excellence with the possibility of personalising the living space with a stylish architecture.

Be they spiral, winder, helical, in wood, steel or plastic the Fontanot staircases have furnished and continue to furnish homes all over the world with an unmistakable style, the fruit of our propensity to change, experimentation and innovation with which we have conquered the market since 1947.

There are a great many types of staircase that characterise living because they encapsulate the architectural aesthetics of an entire culture in a certain era.

Be it 16th century buildings, baroque and rococo architecture, Arab casbah staircases or the fire escape staircases typical of the American metropolises, the staircase has always been the visible and functional path of the spatial continuity between worlds (inside and outside, above and below, heaven and earth, earth and sky) and becomes the linchpin full of meaning.

Fontanot is the brand that expresses all of these meanings, it is the brand that embodies the staircase as universally understood through history, it is the evolution of the staircase from functional to narrative architecture, it is the brand that creates a new culture.
